The Scania Construction Class

For Tough Construction Work

Scania construction vehicles are renowned for sturdy dependability, derived from durable high strength throughout the chassis and powertrain.

Construction trucks are expected to go just about anywhere, for example, on any road or indeed where there’s no road, up and down steep gradients and along uneven winding tracks.  One day the ground can be soft, with trucks axle-deep in mud or sand and the next day, the terrain may be completely different: hard, rutted and unyielding.

To cover the extensive range of operating requirements associated with construction vehicles, Scania offers a comprehensive model range.  There are ten choices of power outputs (from 230HP to 580HP) and various gearboxes including an overdrive 12-speed for use with hub reduction axles. Various high-torque PTO options exist for engines and gearboxes.

Vehicles with a conventional manual gearbox also have the option of a clutch monitoring system that will prolong service life and ensure smooth and precise operation all day long.
Axle configurations include all-wheel drive as well as single and tandem drive axles. Suspension options include air, parabolic and multileaf.  For extreme off-road loads and conditions, there are extra-heavy duty frames (design capacity is up to 150 tonnes).

The diverse range of operating conditions and applications in the construction industry makes it inevitable that there will be numerous combinations of major components to choose from.
Prime-mover chassis’ can cover gross weights from 32 tonnes up to a massive 150 tonnes for extreme operations.  Your choice depends on the amount of power you need. The power range associated with the R cabs includes all engines. For the P cabs, the range includes from 230HP to 420HP.  Single axles have difflocks. Tandem bogies have inter-axle locks. Traction control is standard on all models.

For an optimised combination of off-road strength, brisk highway performance and economical fuel consumption, a combination of a hub reduction drive axle and GRS900 overdrive gearbox is recommended (power range 310HP to 580HP).  Vehicles specified for less arduous applications can have single reduction axles, which have the advantages of less weight and lower frictional losses. 4x4 and 6x6 rigids have a GRS890 12-speed gearbox. Crawler ratios are available through the transfer box
