Scania Speciality Vehicles
What if your requirements don’t fit into the segments long-haulage, distribution or construction? The Scania modular system offers more specification options for tractors and rigids than ever before, for example, engines range from 230HP to 580HP (in 10 steps), several manual gearboxes (all compatible with Scania Opticruise) and automatic transmission. All types of axle configurations are available from a simple 4x2 to extra heavy-duty all-wheel drive. There are eight different cabs, various chassis strengths, several rear axle gears and a choice of suspension systems.
a) Fire and Rescue
The large range of components within the Scania modular system enables operators and body manufacturers to create a vehicle specification that meets very precisely defined needs.
b) Hazardous Goods
Vehicle chassis’ equipped to handle hazardous goods in the categories EX/II, EXIII, FL, and AT can be supplied directly from the Scania factory. This also applies to the OX category that will be supplied from Scania factories in the near future. Please note that vehicles must conform to ADR or any other national or international regulations relating to the transport of dangerous goods.
Scania Braking Systems
All standard production Scania vehicles with 11-, 12- and 16-litre engines can meet endurance braking performance required by the ADR agreement. This means that by use of the exhaust brake only, the fully-laden vehicle of at least 44 tonnes gross combination weight will maintain a steady speed of 30 km/h on a 6 km long 7% downhill gradient. All Scania ADR vehicles meet EC braking requirements and have ABS anti-lock brakes.
Battery Cut-Out (EX/III & FL)
This disconnects supply to all electrical components except the tachograph and radio memory. The Cut-Out mechanism incorporates a pneumatic control inside the cab, within reach of driver or passenger, for fast electrical isolation in an emergency.
c) Heavy Haulage
Scania’s approach to heavy-haulage builds on a combination of flexibility and modular components. Starting from Scania’s range of truck chassis, you can create a basic heavy-duty chassis that best suits your need – with gross train weights up to 150 tonnes (250 tonnes for slow-moving transport). After that, you are able to specify the cab, transmission and other options.
